Back at the family's favourite Shanghaiese Restaurant yesterday for dinner. I had the Dam Dam Noodles again so this time I got a shot of the Deep Fried Dumplings (Zin Kau). I also tried the whole Garlic Cloves pickled in Laba Vinegar, which were okay, but certainly not something to eat before a social event!

Day 92 - Skittles
A mid-morning snack lead to me find this strange and deformed skittle. It tasted just like the insides of a regular skittle without the shell!
Mmm... sugarlicious...
Polls are back in town.
I've decided to add the polls back in again. We're voting on last weeks photos. Vote away!

Day 91 - Roast Chicken Wrapped in Bacon
Served with Lamb Cutlets, Basic Pasta and Choi. A great family dinner at home. The chicken was delicious, the only problem being that there was so much of it!

Day 89 - Tofu/Fish Ball Noodle Soup
Last night I had dinner at a small restaurant in Hang Hau, some sort of Tofu/Fish Ball with Noodle Soup. It was overall quite good but the Tofu/Fish Balls were great.
Day 88 - Take away Dumplings and Soup Noodle
Dinner was take away Soup Noodles and Dumplings on Thursday night. Not too bad but neither compared favourably to the tiny Shanghaiese place we frequent.

Day 87 - 'Good Wife Sausage' at Frites, Central
Last night I went to Frites: Belgium on Tap in Central for dinner and drinks. I ordered the 'Good Wife Sausage' which was a half-mitre sausage wrapped around delicious, lumpy mash.
Normally I'm a fan of smooth and creamy mash, but in this case (perhaps it was the flavour of the potatoes), this lumpy mash worked *really* well.
Day 86 - Smoked Duck Breast with Fried Rice Noodles
After my slightly disappointing lunch last Friday, I decided to go with something that I knew. I couldn't remember if this one had been in the 365 Days of Food before (yes, it has), but it was delicious all the same.

Day 85 - Family Dinner
Pictured is Pan Fried Rice with soy, Ham, Choi, Chicken with Sesame and my favourite: Fried Eggs also cooked with a little soy.
I fully recommend: next time you have Fried Eggs add a little soy, it gives the eggs a touch of saltiness and makes them extra delicious.
These eggs were supposedly extra special Japanese Eggs, but they tasted just the same (great!) to me.
Day 84 - Claypot Pork and Rice
The rice was okay (so much rice) but my favourite, as always, was the "Baby Oyster Pancake" (Hoe Beng) in the background.

Day 83 - Mat Yue Yeun and Taiwanese Style Sausages
Lunch today was rather an assortment of things including Mat Yue Yeun (Octopus Balls) and Taiwanese Style Sausages. Not too bad, but I preferred the Octopus Balls.

Day 82 - Char Siu with Fried Udon
Lunch today at work I decided to try something aside from my normal Japanese Chicken Curry Rice or Char Siu Fan and went with the Char Siu Fried Udon. It was okay, but I think my regular choices are better!
Day 81 - Shao Mai
A traditional late night snack in Hong Kong (I'll try to get a better photo again some time). I expected the Shao Mai from Mong Kok to be among the best as it's a bit of a centre for street food, but these ones bought from the store at the South end of Sai Yeung Choi S St were terrible!

Day 80 - Chicken and Potato Curry
Family dinner at home. Also pictured is a Crab, Choi and Rice Noodle dish and Lamb Chops.
Day 79 - Häagen-Dazs Mango Icecream
Dessert. Although Häagen-Dazs proclaim themselves "super premium ice cream" I don't find it particularly better than a lot of other brands.

Day 78 - Dam dam Mien (Sesame Paste Soup Noodles)
Back at the same tiny noodle place as Day 64. This time I had a Pork Sesame paste soup base with chilli that was great but very filling.
Monday, 13 April 2009
Day 77 - Spicy Duck Bills
This could possibly have overtaken Chicken's Feet (which I've come to quite like) as the strangest thing I've eaten so far in Hong Kong. Although the flavour wasn't bad, the sheer difficulty in eating this dish means, that I'm unlikely to try it again.
Day 76 - Steamed Scallops with Garlic and Rice Noodles
Fantastic flavours in this dish served at Maxim's, Po Lam.
Day 75 - Chicken Flavoured Instant Noodles
A quick lunch before heading to Central Crags for an afternoon on the rock!
Friday, 10 April 2009
Day 74 - Mochi Cafe Wafu Salad
As expected the wait out the front of Mochi Cafe in TST was horrendous on the first night of the Easter Holidays, but once inside, the food was fantastic, with this salad and the Udon being stand-outs. Actually worth the (very) long wait!

Day 73 - Morning Coffee
This old, beat up, coffee maker was handed down to me by my father and still brews amazing and strong coffee everytime. It's apparently an Italian design and I've never seen another coffee maker like it.
Replacement Polls Results
The Bimbo Deluxe Caeser Pizza won in a landslide 4 votes to 1.
Fish and Chips:
Fish and Chips was a tie, 2 votes each. But I can tell you that the Ballarat Fish and Chips were far tastier!
Hamburger:
Another tie in the Hamburger poll, 2 votes each for the Ararat homeward bound Burger (with the "Lot") and for the MacDonald's Nightmare Machine: The Pounder

Day 71 - Crispy Pan-fried Noodles
Crispy on the top and bottom and soft in the middle, these noodles are so good, but so oily. A box with Char Siu and Chinese Sausage in the background.
Day 70 - Baked Pork Chop with Rice
At a tiny Cafe in Causeway Bay named Surprise. Pity that just about the only pleasant surprise was that the Dong Ying Yeung was particularly good.
Day 69 - Spanakopita
Again! This time home-made in Hong Kong. Not quite as good as the Melbourne version, but still pretty damn tasty.

Day 68 - Crispy Fried Chicken
Family dinner at home on a Friday night. Not particularly good for the diet I'm supposed to be on!
Thursday, 2 April 2009
Day 67 - Four'n'Twenty Beef Pies
Dinner tonight was a very basic affair, with a couple of meat pies, potato gems and a leafy green salad.
My favourite way to eat pies is normally to cut open the lid and mix a little tomato sauce in with the meat. Tonight, I added a little American Mustard in with the sauce and meat, which turned out to be a great idea. Well recommended!

Day 66 - Lai Wong Bau
At Yum Cha for my welcome back to work lunch. Lai Wong Bau is a delicious bun filled with an egg custard. It is also...my favourite!
Day 65 - Coconut Noodles with Mango Ice-cream and extra Mango
It's no surprise that we call this common dessert house chain "the mango mango mango place".
Day 64 - Shanghainese Noodles
A wonderful tiny Shanghainese Restaurant in To Kwa Wan.This is the Mince Pork Noodles with Soup.
Day 63 - Airline Food
This was the Chicken option: 'Chicken with Pesto Potatoes'... and of course served with a James Squire Golden Ale.
Day 61 - The Pounder
Four Quarter Pounder patties with barely enough bread, sauce and cheese to still classify it a burger. Throw in a large fries and large coke. That's what I call a challenge.
Day 60 - Coldrock
Half Raspberry Sorbet with Nutella and half Doughnut Ice-cream with Strawberry Freddo and Fudge. The Raspberry Sorbet was good but the Doughnut with Strawberry Freddo was Sublime.
