Day 186 - Octopus Balls and Green Tea Soymilk

A pre-dinner snack in Mong Kok.

The Green Tea Milk is a freebie when buying the Octopus Balls, but not very good at all. We should have gone for a regular soft-drink, but you'd never know unless you try it.

The Octopus Balls themselves were great. Although it sounds a little strange, they were just how I like them: crisp on the outside, soft in the middle, with a slightly chewy piece of octopus inside. Delicious!

Day 185 - Homemade Pork Wonton

Day 185 - Homemade Pork Wonton, originally uploaded by JoeGray.

Yes... the gweilo can make Wonton! The skins are bought but we make the filling and I fold the wonton by hand.

I've become very adept at the process and can certainly make them faster than I can eat them these days!

The soup is very basic with just a little soy and spring onion, and once dipped in some sipcy soy, the wonton are delicious.

Day 184 - Prawn Omelette

A Chinese twist on the omelette. Prawns, Onion and Egg.

Day 183 - Chicken Soup Noodle Lunch Set

Also served with a Sausage and Baked Bean Omelette and a Bread Roll with Butter. Not bad and quite cheap.

Day 182 - Mango, Cream and Pancake Layer Cake

Happy half-way cake!

...and also for the plethora of family birthdays that occur around the start of August. This cake has a top and bottom of pound cake with layers of cream, mango and pancakes in between. It's coated in cream with extra Mango on top. Sweet enough for you?

Smoked Duck and Roast Chicken Fried Rice Noodle Sandwich?... What?

Day 172 - Smoked Duck Breast with Fried Rice Noodles + Day 173 - Roast Chicken Sandwich
A tie this week after the sandwich made a late run. The new poll is already open!

Day 181 - Roast Duck

... with dipping sauce. Quite good.

Day 180 - Salami, Cheese and Salad Sandwich

I originally asked for a toasted cheese and salami sandwich (which is normally just salami and cheese, toasted in a grill) but instead I got a salami and salad sandwich with cheese and toasted bread! Not exactly what I wanted, but still okay.

Day 179 - Sliced Pork in Tomato Sauce with Rice

Lunch today was Sliced Pork in Tomato Sauce, and probably for the first time in my 365 Days of Food, I can report a bad dish. Despite not sounding too bad on paper, this dish was fairly terrible. The Pork wasn't bad, but not good either. The rice overcooked. Worse of all, however, the "Tomato Sauce" was nothing more than clear-ish goop (probably made with water and corn flour) and seriously lacking in tomato. I tried adding extra pepper, but nothing was going to save this dish.

At least the Dong Yuen Yeung was great!

Day 178 - Coffee and a Cocktail Bun

An afternoon snack since I wouldn't be having dinner till very late. Good coffee being hard to find in Hong Kong, I often opt for Starbucks, which, while certainly not super high ranking, is consistent. I also went with a cocktail bun, for that sugar high for my post-work netball session. Not healthy by any measure, but a rather tasty combination.

Day 177 - Penne Carbonara with Prawns and Mushrooms

A slightly altered Carbonara recipe tonight, including prawns and mushrooms. Not bad at all, although I think I prefer the original.

Day 176 - Mochi Cafe Teriyaki Premium Pork Don

Dinner at Mochi Cafe in TST tonight. Although I ordered the same Wafu Salad with Crabmeat as last time, I thought I should upload a photo of something new. The Wafu Salad was terrific and a highlight for me (I'll post it in the flickr comments). The Teriyaki Pork Don (Don meaning rice) was good, but perhaps the meat was a little fatty for my taste. Overall a great meal.

PS: Head over to the flickr page to see tonight's Wafu Salad with Crabmeat.

Pork Chop Hotplate: Delicious-ness in motion

Day 162 - Pork Chop Hotplate

From quite a few good shots, the Pork Chop Hotplate (Day 162), walks away the Weekly Photo Champ. Sorry for the delay in posting the last couple of photos, but they're up now and rrreeeady to vote on!

Day 175 - Dan Saan

Day 175 - Dan Saan, originally uploaded by JoeGray.

These Deep-fried Honey Crisps are sweet and often served at Dim Sum Restaurants. Strangely, although considered a dessert dish, they are often bought to the table along with everything else. Very tasty though!

Day 174 - Instant Noodles with a Fried Egg

I may be a food lover (the primary problem anytime I try to diet), but I'm certainly not a food snob. I like McDonald's (sometimes), and I really like Instant Noodles. My favourite is Indomie, an Indonesian brand of Instant Noodles. Salty, a little spicy, with plenty of MSG and sooo good.

Day 173 - Roast Chicken Sandwich

Day 173 - Roast Chicken Sandwich, originally uploaded by JoeGray.

A quick post-climb lunch at my desk. This time around I asked for extra pepper (which I got), but it seems they skimped on the Mayo a little! Can't win them all.

Day 172 - Smoked Duck Breast with Fried Rice Noodles

I wanted a large lunch today, after running 10km this morning and planning a swim after work. In the end it was a toss-up between the Spicy and Sour Chicken Noodle Soup and the Smoked Duck Breast with Fried Rice Noodles. I went with the Rice Noodles because it looked bigger, and wow, it was a large serving! Just what I needed to sink to the bottom of the pool.

Day 171 - Take-Away Chiu Chow Food

Dinner last night was take away Chiu Chow food. There's a selection on my plate here: Sweet and Sour Pork, Garlic Broccoli, Chilli Clams and Crabmeat Pancake. We also had Tofu, Marinated Pork, Fish with Steamed Egg and Bak Choi... I certainly couldn't fit all of it in my bowl!

Day 170 - Roast Beef & Salad Sandwich

A quick lunch at my desk after a lunchtime run. The addition of tomato sauce certainly helped this sandwich but I still think the Roast Chicken was better.

Day 169 - Garden Salad

Day 169 - Garden Salad, originally uploaded by JoeGray.

Another light lunch at work, though I'm sure the amount of thousand island dressing undoes some of the benefit of eating salad!
